Direct answer: Before taking a first retail order, match the exact vehicle version to local registration evidence, service capability, parts support and a written customer handover process.

A saleable model is an exact version
A model name is not a retail-ready specification. Record the destination-market version, steering position, powertrain, trim, software and any approval-relevant equipment. State which substitutions are prohibited. An attractive unit that cannot be registered or supported locally is not ready for a customer deposit.
Close the registration evidence gap
For each proposed version, list the documents requested by the relevant local authority, who supplies them and which vehicle identifier or configuration they cover. Check translation, validity and inspection requirements before promising a registration date. Tormays can coordinate export-side documents; only local authorities and advisers can confirm the current registration pathway.
Make service part of the sales promise
Before the first handover, identify who can diagnose the vehicle, which routine and immobilizing parts are available, how warranty claims will be documented and where customers will be directed. Do not describe support as available until the responsible service partner and scope are confirmed in writing.
Write the handover record
A useful handover pack ties the specific vehicle to its agreed configuration, condition record, keys and accessories, operating instructions, service contact and unresolved exceptions. Separate export inspection from local delivery inspection: neither proves the other. A buyer should know what was accepted and what still needs action.
Use one release checklist
Do not accept a retail order on the strength of a brochure alone. Ask: exact version frozen? Local registration evidence reviewed? Service and parts owner named? Handover documents prepared? Exceptions approved by the buyer? Any blank answer should become an assigned action, not a sales assumption.
What this guide does not prove
This is a decision framework for African vehicle distributors, not evidence of current stock, official brand authorization, local homologation, a service network or a completed customer delivery. Price, availability, duties and timing must be confirmed for the particular market and transaction.
