Taxi fleet buying guide

Check passenger and luggage fit before ordering taxi vehicles

A practical cabin-and-luggage trial for African taxi fleet buyers: test the exact version, required seats and representative bags in one operating layout.

Direct answer: Ask for a loading demonstration with the required passenger seats in use and representative bags in the same vehicle layout. A photograph with rear seats folded does not establish luggage space when those seats are needed for passengers.

Write the trip brief before choosing the body type

Record your intended passenger count, luggage mix, boarding needs and operating use. An airport-transfer brief and a short urban-trip brief can ask different questions; neither should be assumed to represent every taxi route in a country. Use your own trip records or clearly mark the brief as a proposed operating case.

List bags by external length, width and height, then note any fixed operating equipment. Ask the supplier for the exact model year, market version, seat layout and available loading information. Do not infer usable cabin or luggage space from a badge, exterior photograph or a different version.

Run one repeatable layout check

Questions for a passenger-and-bag trial
CheckWhat to record
Vehicle identityExact version and seating layout used for the demonstration
Passenger layoutRequired seats available in their intended operating position
Representative bagsCount, external dimensions, shape and actual or explicitly assumed mass
Loading sequenceHow bags enter and leave; whether a required passenger seat must be folded
Operating checkUnresolved access, restraint, visibility, loading or equipment questions for the responsible operator
DecisionAccept, request another configuration, or seek more evidence; name the decision owner

Request a continuous walk-around or a sequence of clear photographs showing the seat position and the same bags before and after loading. Keep the bag list alongside the evidence so another reviewer can repeat the comparison. Do not ask anyone to conduct an unsafe trial or drive a loaded demonstration before the responsible operator has checked it.

Check mass separately from whether the bags fit

Illustrative arithmetic only: four bags assumed at 15 kg each total 60 kg of baggage. This excludes the driver, other occupants and operating equipment. The example is not a payload specification, a typical passenger allowance or a Tormays operating result.

Use actual weights and the exact vehicle's manufacturer information for a full loading review. A successful space demonstration cannot establish the permitted total load. Ask the responsible operator or qualified vehicle representative to resolve seating, restraint and load-limit questions before approval.

Use the result as a buying condition

If the intended bags fit only when a required passenger seat is unavailable, ask for a different configuration or review the operating brief. Keep a failed or incomplete trial visible rather than changing the bag list after the demonstration to make the vehicle appear suitable.

  • Freeze the passenger and luggage brief before the trial.
  • Test the exact version in one stated operating layout.
  • Keep the bag list and dated evidence together.
  • Close open configuration and loading questions before order approval.

Tormays can help coordinate vehicle-version questions and remote photo or video evidence within an agreed sourcing scope. Supply, seating configuration, documentation, suitability and delivery timing require confirmation for the specific transaction.
